Derek Lambert and the Prairie Fires began playing together in early 2011 after Derek had been writing and performing songs for a few years as a solo acoustic act. The band was formed with a group of diverse musicians in attempt to bring a new style and energy to the songs. The result was a much louder, electric rock and roll band with a raw, straight forward attack and delivery, drawing equally from influences ranging from American folk music to punk rock. The band released its debut 7-inch vinyl EP on Maximum Ames Records in late 2011.
